Why make my own Copycat 3 Musketeer Bars instead of store bought?

I enjoy making my own desserts at home, and that includes making candy.  I think it always tastes much better than the candy we can buy in the store, and it has no preservatives! And it’s fun to do with your family, and kiddos!

So easy!

You only need 3 ingredients to make the 3 Musketeers Bites, and an hour of your time.  What a great treat to share with your family.  It’s the perfect candy to serve at any party or just to satisfy your sweet tooth!

No stove is needed!  In the “old days” our moms and grandmas would stand over the stove, stirring the candy in a double boiler, and using a candy thermometer to make sure the candy was “just right”.  Not any more!  All you need is a microwave, a few ingredients and these delectable bites will be ready in an hour!

Fun fact!

Mars Candy, who created the 3 Musketeers bar calls this candy “the lighter way to enjoy chocolate.  It is your favorite fluffy treat.”  Did you know the Mars Company created the 3 Musketeers bar in 1932.  It was the third brand introduced and manufactured by M&M/Mars, and originally, it had three pieces in one package – chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.  Due to rising costs and wartime restrictions on sugar, the strawberry and vanilla pieces were phased out, leaving the more popular chocolate.  The size was the same as before, so it was coined as “the chocolate bar that could be shared by friends.”

You can make these Copycat 3 Musketeers Bites festive!

To make the candy even more festive, drizzle melted candy melts over the top and add sprinkles.  Just a few ideas might include:  Valentine’s Day – red hearts, St. Patrick’s Day – green sprinkles, 4th of July – red/white/blue drizzles, baby showers – pink and blue, and Christmas – red/green drizzles with sprinkles.  The ideas are endless.

One tip – when using sprinkles, they will stick best when they are applied right after the bites have been dipped in chocolate.

Feel free to substitute white chocolate or dark chocolate for a sweeter taste.

Can I make the bites ahead of time?

Absolutely!  Freeze in an airtight container or in freezer bags for up to a month.

You can also double the recipe – using a 9 x 13″ pan instead of the smaller one.

These can be low-carb! You heard me right!!

Use sugar-free Cool Whip and sugar-free chocolate chips for the recipe. Here are a few suggestions!

Ingredients:

Milk chocolate chips – these make the perfect flavor for the filling for these copycat 3 Musketeer candy bar! I used Ghiradelli chocolate as it’s a better, higher quality chocolate. But your favorite brand will do!

Semi-sweet chocolate chips – I use semi-sweet chips because they are not as sweet as chocolate chips. Just like the milk chocolate chips, I used Ghiradelli chocolate for its high quality chocolate. But whatever you have on hand in your pantry will do!

Cool Whip – this fully whipped topping holds its shape well.  Be sure not to stir it too much as it could lose its fluffiness, and will start to thin out. I did try to use homemade whipped cream for this recipe, and it didn’t hold up as well as store-bought cool whip. Therefore, I suggest buying the tub.

Melt the milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe dish for 45 seconds. Stir until smooth and melt for 20 seconds at a time until completely smooth. Let cool for 10 minutes.

In a mixing, combine the cool whip and milk chocolate. Work the ingredients together with a wooden spoon or hard spatula until fully incorporated. Some chunks are ok, you can choose to work the mixture until smooth to desire.

Pour mixture into a dish and level out to desired thickness. Place in the freezer for 20 minutes. Remove from the freezer, and carefully remove the filling from the dish fully intact.

Cut the filling into 16 pieces or any amount for the desired size.

Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips the same way you did the milk chocolate. Dip the pieces of filling into the dark chocolate.

Lay flat on parchment and the drizzle remaining chocolate over each bar.

Enjoy!

My grocery list!

Supplies I used for this recipe:

I used my KitchenAid to mix up my cake mix, frosting, and cream from the cookies together. This is the one I use! If you don’t have a stand mixer, and hand mixer will do just fine!

To melt the chocolate, any microwave-safe bowl will do! I used 2 glass measuring cups as they are microwave safe, but they have a handle so I don’t have to worry about touching a hot bowl!

If you like this dessert recipes, you should try these other ones!
