BBQ Chicken Wings in Basket

A family favorite, barbecued chicken wings are crispy and covered with a delicious barbecue sauce coating.

I love my air fryer, and this recipe is so easy to make with just a few ingredients and the wings come out flavorful and crispy every time.  The air fryer saves time as it only takes 15 minutes to cook up a batch of these mouth-watering chicken wings!  Also, by using the air fryer, there is no greasy mess to clean up, and the wings are healthier than if they were fried.

Here are my favorite sides with these Air Fryer BBQ Chicken Wings!

As a main dish, the BBQ chicken wings would go great with sides such as macaroni ‘n’ cheese, coleslaw, French fries, small potatoes or a side salad.

Variety is the spice of life!

“Spice it up” with your favorite hot sauce and melted butter – toss the wings in the mixture after they are cooked.

“Sauce it up” – there are so many sauces to choose from if you want to be less traditional than barbecue sauce.  For a variety, try teriyaki sauce, honey glaze, siracha sauce, ranch dressing, or blue cheese dressing.

“Loving lemon” – sprinkle lemon pepper seasoning on the wings before cooking in the air fryer to give the wings a citrus-peppery flavor.

“Naked wings” – If your family or guests have different favorite sauces, cook the chicken wings without seasonings and have small bowls with a variety of sauces to let people dip their own.

You can cook frozen chicken wings in the air fryer!

Yes!  Place the chicken wings in your air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes if raw, 10-15 minutes if frozen but pre-cooked.

Don’t have an air fryer? No problem!

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.  Season the wings and bake for 45 minutes, turning the wings halfway through the baking process.  The internal temperature should be 165 degrees.

These BBQ Chicken Wings make great leftovers!

Leftover chicken wings can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days if kept in an airtight container.

To reheat in the air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees, then cook for 3-4 minutes.

If you use the oven to reheat your wings, preheat the oven to 350 degrees, line a baking tray with aluminum foil and bake for 7 minutes.

If you microwave the leftover wings, place a damp paper towel on a plate, place the wings on the paper towel and then cover the wings with another damp paper towel and heat for about two minutes.

Of course, leftover chicken wings can be eaten without reheating.  They are great for a snack or to take to work or school for lunch.

Can I freeze my leftover wings?

Leftover chicken wings can be frozen for up to 3 months.  Let them cool completely before placing in an airtight container or freezer bag.

Cooking frozen chicken wings:

There is no need to thaw frozen wings before cooking them.  Cook the chicken wings in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, flip the wings, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.

Supplies I used to make this recipe:

As mentioned before, you do not need an Air Fryer for this recipe. However, if you are searching for a new air fryer, this is the one our family has! It works well, is an 8 quart with a great size for our family of 4, and has a viewing window.

In addition to the ingredients, I used parchment paper to place inside my air fryer. They are not needed, nor necessary. Parchment paper does make for an easy clean-up, as well as easy, no-quick removal from the air fryer.
