These Pulled Pork Sandwhiches are tender, juicy, and full of flavor!

My husband is a native to Texas so I knew that southern food was going to be staple in our home…and I’m not mad about it! Whenever we go to a Barbecue restaurant, pulled pork sandwiches are my go-to! But now with this recipe, we can make our own at home!

What is best paired with Pulled Pork Sandwiches?

There are so many things to eat with these pulled pork sandwiches! My favorites are cole slaw (however I love throwing cole slaw on top of my pork and eat in the sandwich), potato salad, macaroni and cheese, beans, buttermilk biscuits, corn on the cob, and more! But never forget to wash it down with a big glass of sweet tea! YUM!

I don’t have an Air Fryer! Can I still make these Air Fryer Pulled Pork Sandwiches?

Yes! I have made pulled pork in the slow cooker, and it comes out just as good!

Slow Cooker

Add all the ingredients together in the slow cooker and mix well.  Cover and cook on high for 1-3 hours, or on low for 3-4 hours.  Turn off the slow cooker when you are finished cooking so the pork won’t dry out.  Enjoy!

Do Air Fryer Pulled Pork Sandwiches make good leftovers?

Yes! Sometimes we make extra just for leftovers! Warm them up, and place them in a warmed hamburger bun. Pork can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days. These are my favorite glass containers!

This is a great high protein/low carb option!

Just omit the hamburger bun!

Ingredients:

Pork butt – I have found this to be the best part of the pig for pulled pork sandwhiches, but you can also use the shoulder! These two parts are higher in fat which provides the most tender and juicy pulled pork sandwiches!

Olive oil – Using a high quality olive oil is preferred for this recipe.

Liquid smoke – Just a small amount of liquid smoke makes your pork taste like it just came out of the smoker! It’s so yummy!

Salt and pepper – table salt and pepper is good for seasoning the pork.

Garlic powder – for seasoning the pork.

Onion powder – for seasoning the pork.

Chili powder – for seasoning the pork.

Cumin – for seasoning the pork.

Barbecue Sauce – our favorite BBQ sauce is Sweet Baby Ray’s, but you can use your favorite store bought or homemade sauce!

Place the pork in a gallon storage bag. Add the oil and liquid smoke. Close the bag leaving a little air in the bag. Shake the pork inside to bag to fully coat all the surfaces. Open and add all your spices. Seal the bag with some air and repeat agitating the pork until fully coated in the spices. Let the pork sit for at least 30 minutes, for the best results and tenderness, let the pork chill overnight in the bag with the air removed.

Form an aluminium foil bowl in the air fryer and pre-heat to 370°f. When you’re ready to cook, let the meat come to room temperature then place the pork in the air fryer basket with the fatty side up. Pour over the remaining juices. Cook the pork for 1 1/2 hours at 370°f, flipping the pork twice every 30 minutes. Cook the meat to 180°f to ensure the meat is fully cooked. Cook for an 15 minutes extra if needed.

When the pork is finished, leave the pork in the air fryer for 30 minutes to rest.

Remove the pork and shred the meat on a cutting board.

Add the shredded meat to the large mixing bowl and the 1/2 cup barbecue sauce. If desired, add another 1/2 cup.

Fold the shredded meat into the sauce to fully coat.

Enjoy!

As mentioned before, you do not need an Air Fryer for this recipe. However, if you are searching for a new air fryer, this is the one our family has! It works well, is an 8 quart with a great size for our family of 4, and has a viewing window.
